It is not a test
Counseling offers a conversation about feelings and experiences. You do not need a self-diagnosis or a rehearsed story. Saying that you do not know where to start is a valid beginning.
Prepare three notes
Write what prompted you to seek support, a recent example, and what you hope will change. The notes organize your thoughts; they do not prove how serious your difficulties are.
Ask about the process
Discuss session length, fees, confidentiality and next steps. Request plain-language explanations.
Afterwards
Consider what you understood and what remains unclear. Appointment details belong in your account; personal experiences belong in the conversation with your practitioner.
